White Wine Pear Sangria

I am a fan of wine…pretty much in all forms, except blush.  I like the light fruitiness of a savinogn blanc as much as I like the dark pepper cherry of a Zinfandel.  Which means, I also like it when we can have fun with wine and mix it up…in this case, making a sangria.

A few years ago, I helped with a retirement party and offered to bring the sangria.  I wanted to look at lots of different recipes and make a red and a white.  I was very diligent in doing my homework on this, so much so that I found out something I hadn’t ever correlated before, which is that Sangria is a fancy way of saying Wapatuli (or wap).  The term Wap just brings up thoughts of poor college decisions and that is not what I thing of with sangria.  I can’t deny the correlation…Sangria is the fancy version of Wap.  But my opinion is ally this version with the light crispness of the pears and citrus.

White Wine Pear Sangria


  • 2 bottles white wine, pinot grigio or savingnon blanc
  • 3/4 cup triple sec
  • 1 cup pear flavored vodka
  • 2 manderin oranges or tangellos (whatever is available to you), sliced
  • 2 pears, sliced – make sure to remove the seeds

  • In a pitcher or two depending on the size, combine equal parts wine, triple sec, vodka, oranges and pears.  
  • Stir and chill in fridge.  Let flavors combine for at least a 1/2 hour.
