Maple Old Fashioned

Being originally from Wisconsin, there are a few things that come standard in the blood and one of them is the knowledge of the Old Fashioned.  This is my shout out to Memorial Day Weekend, where I will be on my way to Sconnie, the place where I believe the Old Fashioned was born.

There are many ways to make this cocktail – with brandy or whiskey; you can use sweet (7up) or sour (squirt) mix; whether to use just cherry for taste or cherry and orange; and lastly whether you want to use an old fashioned mix, or just mix your own.  With all those options, there are definitely many different variations of this drink so you can pretty much make everyone at your dinner party happy by accommodating all the taste buds.  Here is one variation that was quite tasty.

Maple Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Maple Flavored Whiskey
  • 1 part Triple Sec
  • 2 parts sour soda
  • Dashes Bitters
  • Splash Maraschino Cherry Juice

Preparation:
  • In bottom of glass, muddle 5 or 6 dashes bitters with one cherry until cherry is macerated.  Add a few ice cubes to about half the glass.  Add whiskey, triple sec, cherry juice and sour.
  • Stir and garnish with a cherry.  Cheers!

Happy Cocktailing!!!
